16+ hour standoff in Seneca County ends peacefully: Ovid man faces felony weapon charge

Sheriff Tim Luce says a standoff ended safely on Friday around 9 a.m. after the suspect involved surrendered without injury to anyone involved. It began on Thursday around 4:30 p.m. at a residence on County Rd. 139 in Ovid. Deputies responded to 2463 County Rd. 139 for the report of a male threatening self-harm and believed to be armed. A perimeter was immediately established and Sheriff’s Office crisis negotiators were requested to the scene. Crisis negotiators who were also CIT–(Crisis Intervention Team), trained immediately began communicating with the male by phone to obtain his safe surrender, according to Luce.

Sheriff Tim Luce reports the arrest of two Romulus residents following an investigation into the death of a 3-year-old child. On October 23rd, deputies and investigators responded to a residence on Ernsberger Road for the report of an unresponsive 3-year-old male. Deputies responded along with first responders from the Romulus Fire Department, North Seneca Ambulance, and South Seneca Ambulance – attempting extensive life-saving measures. Luce says the child was ultimately transported to Geneva General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
