Sometimes things go very wrong when travelling – for me, the dominos started falling when I turned our car up towards the five-star Camp Estate near Larnach Castle, on the beautiful Otago Peninsula. I d visited the castle a few times, but on this occasion, I was brimming with excitement about the chance to stay the night.

Driving up to Camp Estate we had no idea we were in the wrong place. From the outside, Camp Estate looks like it could be a weekend retreat for the royal family. It’s just 500 metres down the road from the castle and I genuinely thought it was the only place to stay.
