Family members, eight pets rescued from Spotswood home; police officer, firefighter injured during house fire SPOTSWOOD – Two first responders were injured during a house fire in which several family members and pets were rescued. Spotswood police responded to Fernhead Avenue around 1:01 p.m. April 29 for a report of a house fire. Upon arrival, officers observed flames and heavy smoke coming from the top of the home, according to information provided by the Spotswood Police Department. Officers entered the house and assisted the residents in exiting the home while also gathering some of the family pets. During this time, one of the officers suffered smoke inhalation, according to reports. He was treated on scene by Spotswood EMS and was transported to the hospital.

View Comments SPOTSWOOD – A longtime borough resident lost her Fernhead Avenue home and two of the family s 11 pets, while another pet remains missing, following a fire this week. The 86-year-old woman, who has lived in the borough for 50 years, and her daughter were evacuated from the home and have been relocated with the assistance of the Red Cross and other family members, according to police. One police officer was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and sent to the hospital. A firefighter along with a resident who suffered an injury also were taken to the hospital.  Meanwhile, an animal control officer was able to resuscitate an unresponsive cat rescued from the fire, police said.
