The community must take quick action to address the growing issues in the Melnea Cass and Massachusetts Ave. area, members of South End community groups stated at a press event Friday, proposing a fast-acting plan to construct a short-term recovery campus at the MBTA-owned Widett Circle.
A coalition of Boston businesses and neighborhood groups kicked off a campaign Friday calling for creation of a recovery campus at the MBTA-owned Widett Circle, pitching it as a way to relieve the unyielding pressures of drug use and homelessness in the area known as "Mass. and Cass."
If built, the recovery campus would operate for three or four years until the city reopens its addiction treatment center on Long Island in Boston Harbor.
