Coronavirus deaths rise, but new-case increase slows down on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. The city Health Department, over the past 24 hours, recorded six more coronavirus (COVID-19) deaths on Staten Island, while the borough’s disease-related hospitalizations rose by 10.
And while coronavirus infections had spiked after the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, less than 300 new cases were reported here in a 24-hour period for the third straight day.
As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, 1,424 borough residents are believed to have died from complications related to the coronavirus.
