Reigning Olympic champion Mack Horton was the major casualty on day one of the Australian Olympic team swimming trials as he fell just short of qualifying in a scintillating 400 metres freestyle final.

Her time in the national 100m won her a silver medal at what was her first nationals meet.
Troy Carlson won gold in the 18-19 50m freestyle with a time (22.57 seconds) that’s currently ranked the sixth fastest in Australia heading into the Olympic trials.
The 18-year-old also finished with a bronze medal in the 200m butterfly.
Former Grammar pupil and now Sunshine Coast University student Lucy Dring finished with two medals, a silver in the 200m butterfly and bronze in the 200m individual medley in the 17-18 age group.
