If the country is to find a way out of the current crisis, exacerbated by the Covid-19 pandemic, five critical actions will have to be taken to reconfigure the energy sector, within a 500-day window, according to researchers. Think tank Meridian Economics this week published a briefing note, prepared for the Capacity Building Programme for Employment Promotion Colloquium. Authors Dr Grové Steyn, Celeste Renaud and Lonwabo Mgoduso propose five critical actions to get South Africa on track to developing a fit for purpose, 21 st century energy sector , compatible with the global transition toward less carbon-intensive economies.
