Some West Seattleites want to build an aerial gondola to connect peninsula to downtown by Callie Craighead, SeattlePI
While the long-awaited decision to repair the cracked West Seattle High-Rise Bridge was finally made earlier in November, some residents are looking to the horizon for a totally new form of transit to connect the peninsula to the downtown core.
That s right, some West Seattle transportation advocates have launched a campaign effort for an aerial gondola in lieu of a Sound Transit Link Extension.
The West Seattle SkyLink is a proposal to deploy gondola technology usually used at ski resorts or scenic areas to connect the peninsula to the mainland in a mere two years. Similar urban gondolas exist in major cities like London, Singapore and Hong Kong.
