LIMA, April 6 (Xinhua) Peruvians will go to the polls on Sunday to elect a new president, two vice presidents, 130 legislators and five representatives to the Andean Parliament.
In the running are 18 presidential hopefuls, with five candidates currently leading the pre-election polls: Yonhy Lescano of the Popular Action party, Hernando de Soto (Avanza Pais), George Forsyth (National Victory), Veronika Mendoza (Together for Peru) and Keiko Fujimori (Popular Force).
According to the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE), which organizes elections in Peru, voters can choose their preferred polling stations in a digital system in advance.
15:35 | Lima, Feb. 1. The political parties that will participate in Peru s general elections scheduled for April 11 this year have outlined the actions that they intend to implement as part of their government plan if they gain voters support at the polls.
Their government plans are contained in the election platform of the National Elections Board (JNE) and are also available here.
To date, 14 presidential lists are in the race. The list led by Nidia Vilchez is not included, since the political party (Partido Aprista Peruano) announced its withdrawal.
In the coming days, the National Elections Board (JNE) will decide the electoral fate of Hernando de Soto (Avanza Pais), George Forsyth (Victoria Nacional), and Daniel Urresti (Podemos Peru), taking into consideration petitions for disqualifications filed against them.
