and learning more about the victim, identified as zijie yan, associate professor in the applied physical sciences department. in the last hour, the suspect identified as tailei qi, graduate student, made his first court appearance. now first-degree murder and using a gun on education property chargers. no bond has been set. we also learned he was not a u.s. citizen but was here on a visa from china. investigators say it started around 1:00 yesterday about gunfire in a lab building in the heart of the unc campus. gunfire sent the campus into an hours long lockdown, lasting some three hours. unc students could be seen jumping out of windows, running with their hands up. we spoke with a sophomore student who says she was among the last to be evacuated and still in shock over what happened yesterday. hearing like those words
