A new review paper published in the journal Science suggests that humans have enjoyed a nice romantic smooch as far back as 4,500 years ago.
According to the Washington Post, previous studies traced the origin of romantic or sexual kissing to what is now India, approximately 3,500 years ago. The new findings date the kiss an extra 1,000 years.
Written sources from Mesopotamia suggest that kissing in relation to sex was practiced by the peoples of the ancient Middle East 4,500 years ago. The sources have been analyzed by researchers from the University of Copenhagen and University of Oxford in a new article published in the journal Science.
