Good evening. Welcome to this bbc news special on the day britains constitutional crisis came to a head. On the matter of the government suspending parliament for five weeks, the English High Court had decided it was a political matter and none of its business. Scotlands top court ruled it was very much its business and unlawful. Today the countrys Supreme Court made the ultimate judgment. Nobody knew for sure which way it would go. Few anticipated it would be this bad for the Prime Minister. The decision to advise her majesty to Prorogue Parliament was unlawful. It had the effect of frustrating or preventing the ability of parliament to carry out its constitutional functions without reasonable justification. Westminster in shock as 11 justices of the Supreme Court unanimously ruled the Prime Minister should not have suspended parliament. Diana did the same. Good morning. Welcome to bbc newsroom live. One of the Prime Ministers most Senior Advisers has said he is not surprised that some voters are angry with mps over brexit. Dominic cummings said the only way to solve the issue of abuse would be if mps respected the result of the eu referendum. And he said if mps say we dont want to respect that vote, what do you expect to happen . The angry tenor of debate over brexit has caused more than 100 bishops to warn against further entrenching our divisions. Theyve called for respect on all sides, in the debate on britains withdrawal from the eu. Boris johnson has defended the language he used in wednesdays commons debate, after he described one mps safety concerns as humbug. But the prime minster insists he deplores any threats to anybody, particularly female mps. Presenter John Acres missed the first hour of his BBC Radio Stoke breakfast show after accidentally sleeping in this morning. The DJ was replaced by political reporter Sophie Calvert for the first 60 minutes after John failed to turn up for the show s 6am start.
