PlayStation Store on PS3 and Vita Will Remain Open
Sony decided to backtrack on its decision to close the PS3 and Vita versions of the PlayStation Store. President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan took to the PlayStation Blog to say that when it came to the previously announced shutdown, “…it’s clear that we made the wrong decision here.”
Here’s the full explanation from Ryan as to why Sony decided to reverse the decision about PlayStation Store support for the PS3 and Vita. Originally, the PS3 version would have shut down on July 2, 2021 and the Vita one on August 27, 2021.

President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan has pulled a complete 180 on a recent major announcement. The PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable (PSP), and PlayStation Vita digital stores were set to shut down this summer, but Ryan has now announced that the PS3 and Vita stores will stay open and continue to operate normally. The functionality to purchase games digitally on PSP will still retire on July 2, 2021 as previously planned.

Today, in an interview on Famitsu, Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan talked about that.
“I’m really happy and proud about the PS Studios titles released by our Worldwide Studios. Some have already been announced and we’re preparing to reveal more.
Also, SIE has a deep relationship with Japanese licensees, so we will continue to strengthen that cooperation in the future and we also want to develop titles made in Japan for PlayStation Fans around the world.”
