today is boeing s chance to finally put its first crew up in orbit. and that crew is the commander, butch wilmore in the pilot, sonny williams. and these two were sitting on top of that rocket about an hour ago just two hours away from liftoff, when engineers spotted a faulty valve on the atlas five rocket that is supposed to propel that boeing s starliner spacecraft up into space. and so those astronauts had to get down and go back into quarantine and they have been sitting in quarantine for about a month now. they have been able to go back to the johnson space center in houston, texas, spend some time with their family but it s been a long time that they ve been waiting for this moment today. and so we ve got liftoff scheduled for 12, p.m. eastern time from cape canaveral space force station. if all goes according to plan, the boeing starliner spacecraft will separate from
mentioned back in may but now we re go for launch. so what can we expect in about 22 minutes? hopefully, this spacecraft is going to launch from the cape canaveral cape canaveral cape, canaveral space force station up into orbit they re going to spend about eight days up at the international space station. and the reason this is so important, allison, is because of the fact that nasa wants redundancy. they are pretty have the spacex crew dragon capsule, which can take nasa astronauts to the iss. they want a backup alternative that s what boeing s starliner is. an allison same. you should ask charlie bolden about this because he was the nasa administrator when sonny williams was initially named to the starliner crew back in 25th 15. that s how long she has been waiting to fly today. oh, that s that s great context. okay. charles, so tell us how sunny williams and her fellow astronaut are preparing
