If 2020 unexpectedly called the future of the film industry into question, 2021 is set to be a similarly strange (but hopefully less tumultuous) year for cinema. The FDA issued its first emergency use authorization for a COVID-19 vaccine in December 2020, providing hope that life can proceed more normally in the following year (including moviegoing).
There s hope that we ll be able to crowd into movie theaters again in some capacity in 2021; but even then, the release schedule for upcoming films promises to be packed. Numerous blockbusters like

Every movie on this list was originally slated to come out in 2020 â until the COVID-19 pandemic forced studios to reschedule.
It goes without saying that the year of 2020 threw many curveballs (although 2021 seems to be poised to give last year a run for its money). The pandemic disrupted nearly every facet of our culture including entertainment, with many film and TV releases finding themselves in limbo as studios scrambled to figure out what to do with them.
Highly anticipated films such as âCandymanâ and âThe French Dispatchâ were pushed back, then pushed back again in a landscape where people are increasingly relying on the escapism of entertainment. Disney streamed big releases like âMulanâ and âSoul,â while Warner Bros. announced plans to release its entire 2021 slate simultaneously on HBO Max.
