Taipei, Dec. 29 (CNA) The Taipei City government has limited attendance at the city-organized New Year s Eve countdown event to 80,000 as a precaution after Taiwan saw its first locally transmitted COVID-19 case since April last week.
The limit applies only to entry to Taipei City Hall Plaza, which has had a maximum capacity of around 110,000 people in previous years countdown events.
The limit could still be lowered to 40,000 people if necessary, Taipei Deputy Mayor Huang Shan-shan (黃珊珊) said Tuesday.
All attendees will be required to wear face masks, have their temperatures taken, register their names and ID numbers, and sanitize their hands at one of three main checkpoints before they can enter the venue in front of Taipei City Hall, Huang said.
