A gas station and ice cream shop on the corner of Main St. and Sokol Rd. nearly a century ago. (Somers Historical Society)
SOMERS, CT Today we return to the amazing photo book, Images of America: Somers, compiled in 2001 by Jeanne Kenyon DeBell for the Somers Historical Society. On page 80 is an adorable little building at the corner of Main Street and Sokol Road, pictured 95 years ago.
From this small site, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brunell sold Pan-Am gasoline and oil, as well as ice cream from the Somers Creamery. Pan-Am eventually merged with Standard Oil of Indiana in 1954 to form Amoco.
