debate. our chief political correspondent dana bash is in milwaukee. reporter: the fourth time republican candidates will gather to debate. it will look different because on the main stage you will have only eight candidates. it sounds silly to say only eight. compared to 10 and 11, that will be more manageable for the moderators and candidates to try to get their messages across. they will have more time to answer the questions and to rebut when somebody talks about them. it is going to be a very different kind of feel also because we re now several weeks and more into the idea of donald trump and ben carson being at the top of the heap nationally and in the key early states. so the two of them are center stage. we are at the tail end or maybe in the middle of ben carson
talk about this issue. what i found is that people are passionate and so frustrated with the corrupted government that they think they ve got right now. and when somebody talks to them about how it could be fixed, not by pointing to constitutional amendments which nobody thinks are going to happen but actually bring about real change, then they are incredibly passionate. and what i hope is that we can find a way to get our leaders to lead on this issue, because i think there s an incredibly untapped energy out there that would actually transform this election if, in fact, someone were to talk about it openly and strongly. lawrence lessig, thank you for join welcome us tonight. thank you. coming up, the republican response to the u.s. policy shift on syria. this is a failure on all fronts. i think it s a good idea. either do it or you don t do it. so what is the republican strategy on syria? that s just ahead.

when somebody talks about shots fired connected with a military facility knowing the threat from isis right now you re going to see a tremendous response. and then it s going to take a while to find out truth from fiction, which is what law enforcement is doing as we speak. we will wait to know exactly. we don t want to make any speculations about whether this is isis connected or not. we will have confirmation coming up shortly with the latest from authorities that will be speaking to media in about is a minutes. carolyn taylor is an eyewitness to the scene. she heard gunshots. carolyn, you re on the phone with me right now. explain where you were, what you saw and heard. okay. i work at ben s glass on amnicola highway which is directly across the street from the river park. and the first thing that we saw were of course the policemen going in to the river park then we heard several gunshots and then we were just immediately
brad pitt e he s also making sure to mention brad pitt when somebody talks to him about the campaign. maybe the strategy will work i don t know. the polling would suggest you re not cracking the top ten, which means you would not be on the main stage for the fox debate on august 6th. right. if that stays the way it is sir, will you participate in the forum that afternoon? well i ve got to make my mind up about that. but brad pitt would be in the debate in august. anybody with any celebrity would be in the debate. i think this is a dumb way to weed out the field. brad pitt would never weed out the field this way. rick santorum has also been vocal for weeks about his dissatisfaction with the fox news plan. he was asked about it again
