Some Nigerians detained in the Kaliti Prison, Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital city, have again been brutalised by the country’s policemen, SaharaReporters has gathered. This followed multiple reports over the plight of the inmates which the policemen tagged “international embarrassment to the government of Ethiopia”. According to some of them, the policemen accused them of giving fake reports about their inhumane treatment to “a newspaper, SaharaReporters and one Dr Paul Ezike.”

Some Nigerians on X (formerly Twitter) have demanded an immediate increment to the monthly allowance of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) members. NYSC is a programme set up by the Nigerian government during the military regime in 1973 to involve Nigerian graduates in nation-building and the development of the country. There is no military conscription in Nigeria, but since 1973, graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the one-year programme.
