Some Left wing commentators are having quite the field day in the aftermath of President Trump’s second impeachment, playing their favourite game of “I told you so!”
Photographs of Boris Johnson and Theresa May alongside Donald Trump are being eagerly shared on social media, as are breathless condemnations of anyone who was seen, back in 2016, to have shown even the slightest degree of tolerance for the then newly-elected president.
The most recent example of lefty schadenfreude came with an ample helping of smear and insinuation. Columnist Owen Jones accused The Spectator editor and Telegraph columnist Fraser Nelson of performing a reverse ferret on his previous support for the Donald. How this support originally manifested itself is not made clear by Jones, other than a reference to a column he wrote in January 2018 expressing the hope that “A new, more reasonable Donald Trump might just be on the way”.
