It’s the first day of fasting for Muslims around the world. Muslim families fast every day from sunrise to sunset in observance of the holy month of Ramadan. Some Bay Area mosques are holding in-person gatherings.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. - It’s the first day of fasting for Muslims around the world. Muslim families fast every day from sunrise to sunset in observance of the holy month of Ramadan. Some Bay Area mosques are holding in-person gatherings.
At the Muslim Community Center in Santa Clara, Muslims gathered in person, some for the first time in months, to mark the start of Ramadan. It’s a sacred time of self-reflection and sacrifice. Part of Ramadan is when the sun is out, there’s no eating, smoking, drinking, and no water.

Action News Now is working to learn the result of a major overnight crash on Interstate 5 south near Anderson. The CHP told Action News Now they are unable to give us any information at this time. The CHP incident page, where the crash was first reported, said it happened around 4:13 this morning.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - Some Bay Area movie theaters are reopening their doors today, including the Century Theatres in downtown Redwood City.
The first showing in Redwood City is at 2:30 p.m.
Century Theatres in downtown Redwood City prepares to reopen after San Mateo County entered the Red Tier.
Cinemark is also opening its theater in San Bruno.
The movie theater company plans to open more theaters in counties that are in the Red Tier in the coming weeks.
