Always spread your bets around

Always spread your bets around published : 3 May 2021 at 04:30 2 The Department of Medical Sciences reveals that tests show AstraZeneca vaccine samples produced by Siam Bioscience meet all requirements. Photo courtesy of the Ministry of Public Health The World Health Organisation had hailed Thailand s handling of the novel coronavirus at its peak early last year, noting that cooperation and health measures are the keys to success. However, the third wave of the viral pandemic has thrown us into chaos. It has raised the number of infections to over 65,000 and deaths to more than 200, stretching the country s public health system to its limit. What can we learn from this?

Bangkok non-profits are turning to food to empower at-risk communities

On an unusually cool and crisp afternoon, a group of children are sitting outside in a perfectly manicured garden, learning English. Sunlight reflects off the hulking, eggshell-white walls and holy basil-green shutters of the 122-year-old Bangkok 1899 building in the Nang Loeng district, framing the children and their teacher. Far removed from the city’s tortuous warrens of concrete and chaos, the setting makes you question if only for a moment whether you’ve found paradise.      “You see the young girl sitting over there? She’s nine. Researcher defends govt s vaccine deal

Tools | Political Prisoners in Thailand

25 01 2021 There’s a slang term we heard recently, when a dope was referred to as a “tool.” We had to look it up and came up with this: Someone who others normally refer to as a prick, dick, or schmuck. Then there’s the version that is: A guy with a hugely over-inflated ego, who in an attempt to get undue attention for himself, will act like a jackass, because, in his deluded state, he will think it’s going to make him look cool, or make others want to be like him…. Which brings us to Veera Prateepchaikul’s latest op-ed. Veera felt the need to boil over on the vaccine crisis. Veera, along with Somchai Jitsuchon, research director for inclusive development at the Thailand Development Research Institute, both defend the vaccine deal with the king’s company, Siam Bioscience.
