Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S. Somanath, has stated that the Vikram lander of the country s latest lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3, will still be able to land on the Moon s surface, even if two of its engines are not operational. Somanath stated that the sensors and instrumentation of the lander have been designed to handle failures, although he admitted that the key challenge will involve getting the lander to move from a horizontal position to a vertical stance, a process it failed to complete during the Chandrayaan-2 mission.
