been checked against a list of known terrorists or people known to have gone from the u.s. to join up with al-shabab and they find no match ups. the u.s. is checking these names against passport holders, immigration lists and so forth to see if anyone with those names at least had a passport or has traveled outside of the country and i don t know what the results of that is yet. even if you assume that they are passport holders and did travel, that does not by itself mean they were involved in this attack. there is never we won t have a definitive answer until the attack is over and the kenyan authorities have positively identified the people who were involved. now, michael and margaret, you have both been involved in government when we were dealing with the problems with terrorism in the area with somalia. let s set the stage here, roger.
kenya is an enormous tragedy and one of your top diplomats in kenya lost his wife to this tragedy. now, this was somebody who was in charge of more than 200 people working on other things including the famine in somalia. it is tragic. i had a chance to speak with the staff member who lost his wife in the mall in a terrorism atact. our thoughts and prayer are with the people of kenya at this tragic time. i will say that usa has had a proud legacy of really saving lives. taking real risks to go into famine affected areas. and use new technologies to help get services where they were not going. it s always tragic to lose a
