if they want to break this, they own it. didn t democrats criticize the republicans for taking that same kind of approach before? how is that constructive? peter, first of all, you re suggesting that we agreed to repeal something that has brought solvency to medicare, brought down prescription drug costs helped everybody what you re saying is we shou should how do rebuild it? we should accept their premise that expanding health care and strengthening medicare and medicaid is a bad thing we should vote to repeal it in order to fix provisions. that s ridiculous. and so of course, we re willing to sit down and do that, but not to create a situation where all the power goes back to the insurance companies. they can drop you if you get sick. if you have diabetes, cancer, alzheimer s, they don t have to give you insurance. understood. you re a woman, they can discriminate, mental health, on and on and on. senator we re not going to take that
chain cpi, by the way? i can go home and defend entitlement reform as long as which is absolutely essential, as long as we re not first doing that before we protect the middle class. so we ve got to make sure that we re not slashing and taking a meat ax. you can defend this in south florida. i can defend entitlement. well, we absolutely have to add solvency to medicare, medicaid and social security. we ve shown through the president s plan that you can add hundreds of billions of dollars more insolvency to medicare. there are ways to add it to medicaid but the first thing cannot be to cut benefits to seniors. thank you very much. we ll keep track of these house dinners. of course cameras will scare everybody away. no. president obama s pick to cia gets one step closer to langley.
phone calls. what i heard all across the country as i traveled on behalf of president obama is that whether you re a liberal or conservative, people are clamoring for us to come together, to work together, and to move our economy forward. and people do not think that we should have massive defense cuts and massive discretionary cuts and that we have to focus on making sure we add solvency to medicare, deal with social security, which is not in crisis so we have more time to deal with that. i mean, we ll be in our 80s by the time there s we re upside-down in social security and we have to be responsible about the approach we take. we have to deal with it. medicare, though, obviously medicare and medicaid are the two big yeah, but we ve shown we can add years of solvency like we did well, you can continue to focus on making sure that around the margins we deal with cracking down on waste, fraud and abuse. we ve already in the last year and a half that doesn t mean anything.
there are a couple of potential pitfalls at the convention. there s not going to be a clint eastwood moment. i can predict that. no empty chair. they better make sure there aren t empty chairs at the bank of america stadium. that would be the big statement. i m sure they ll do that. second is they push back on this are you better off. they have to make sure that they tell people yeah they re better off, but they re not nearly as well off as they need to be. they ve done a lot but there s more to do. then they have to draw the contrast that they want the democrats want tax cuts for the middle class. bush wants them for the wealthy paid for by the middle class. biden had a great line today. he said we re for medicare, they re for voucher care. those are the kind of messages that have to come out of this convention. along with the sense that the president has a plan for where he wants to take the country in the next four years. i m planning this will be an
being hypocritical for attacking the president s savings on $716 in medicare when his own plan calls for the same cuts. cantor was at a loss for words saying quote, the sumps that the the the again, i probably can t speak to that exact way, so i better just not. very interesting. wouldn t you think so? you know, eric cantor s a very smart man and articulate. i actually have a good relationship with him. i m stunned he could not respond. but he s got to try to support his team. even when the team jumps off base. erin mcpike, explain how cantor has got to bob and weave and even it s over the top for him. i don t know why eric cantor couldn t answer this, but i think the larger point about why the romney campaign and paul
