On May 17th in one of a number of pieces I wrote about Governor Whitmer using a private jet for personal use and her inability to tell us who paid for it I wrote the following:
“do not be surprised if we later find out that it took this long to finally inform us of who paid for the jet because of another reason. That reason was this flight was paid for by someone else that was not legal under campaign finance laws and it took them this long to figure out what to do and who would help them get out of this mess by cooking their books.”
Whitmer took a Gulfstream G280 jet to see her ailing father in March. (Photo: Clay Lacy Aviation) Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is still untangling herself from controversy over her March flight to Florida to visit her father. The trip has prompted FAA scrutiny, prompting a change in how the flight will be paid for, the Free Press reported Thursday. Instead of having her nonprofit cover the approximately $28,000 trip a move announced to quiet concerns she could owe a political favor had the jet ride been free Whitmer will now use funds from her political campaign. The issue is that the plane s owner does not have a license to operate charter flights. For unknown reasons, the FAA says the plane owners license does allow for flights paid for with campaign donations.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s (D) story about her secret trip to Florida aboard a private jet is changing again, according to a letter from her attorney.
After her four-day trip to Florida in March became public in April, Whitmer dodged questions about her full itinerary, who paid for the “personal” trip, and what, if anything, was offered in exchange for the private flight.
Whitmer’s office announced her affiliated 501(c)(4) organization, Michigan Transition 2019, would pay the $27,521 cost for the trip. She reimbursed the entity $855 for her seat, the estimated cost of a first-class ticket.
After the House Oversight Committee sent a list of questions to the governor’s office, attorney Christopher Trebilcock answered on behalf of Michigan Transition 2019 and Whitmer’s campaign committee, according to a letter obtained by
