And they’re not just snowbirds, either: Musicians such as Alice Cooper and David Ellefson (of Megadeth) have started nonprofit organizations here that encourage youth music education.
The Valley also was the birthplace of the hit young-adult book series that gave the vampire genre fresh blood in the late 2000s and into the 2010s. “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer, who grew up in Scottsdale and still lives in the area with her family, even gave Arizona a spotlight during a high-speed superhuman car chase in her latest book, “Midnight Sun.”
