Hydrogen powered buses are being tested in Austrial by Solaris, a specialist producer of electric buses.
The hydrogen-powered Urbino hydrogen bus has been riding the streets of the towns of the Austrian province of Carinthia. Solaris says it has kicked off the presentation of its hydrogen-fuelled vehicle and, as a result, representatives of regional authorities and local transport operators are now able to learn more about the technology featured in that vehicle.
At a conference held in Villach, representatives of the federal land of Carinthia and of operator ÖBB Postbus talked about their plans to purchase hydrogen buses. This ultramodern and completely emission-free bus model has been raising a lot of interest among local carriers.

Solaris has revealed today (May 24) that hydrogen-powered Urbino buses have been utilised on Austrian streets in Carinthia in preparation for the ‘H2 Carinthia’ project.
A detailed presentation of the bus had been hosted in the Austrian town of Villach showcasing the buses strengths and how hydrogen-powered transport can help decarbonise sectors.
With the presentation and successful test drives, which will last until the end of May, the buses are expected to be widely used by the Austrian public with regional authorities and local transport operators expressing its support.
In addition to this, details on ‘H2 Carinthia’ have been revealed with the project hoping to create a model hydrogen region using energy from hydrogen in public transport and the industry.
