Along with COVID-19 testing areas and sanitizer dispensers, air travelers in Dubai or Helsinki might notice another pandemic-era addition to airports: a station where specially trained dogs can detect the presence of coronavirus in arriving passengers.
The pilot program at Helsinki Airport has tested more than 4,000 passengers on a voluntary basis since launching in September. The process, which does not replace antigen or rapid tests but research suggests could be far more accurate, provides results in about three minutes via a sample wiped from passengers’ skin.
