much money spent on oil and lobbying, so, on the hill, how do you fight that kind of influence? well, we have to change the way we finance campaigns in this country. many of us have been saying that for years and years and efforts are made to reform and the same lobbyists who are buying influence and access to the policymakers resist the change and the way we can finance campaigns. it is a cat chasing its tail. it s a vicious circle and has to be broken if we are to protect this country s security. the best way i can think of is to draw a direct connection, which exists, between sacrificing the lives of our sons and daughters and our oil policy. and if you can get americans to understand that, plus the fact they re literally paying $6 or $7 a gallon for gasoline when you incorporate the military costs and the environmental costs, maybe then they will demand that their elected
electricity as president. if you choose the insider from the oil industry, expect the oil industry will call the shots. and they did. but that s part of the puzzle. halliburton has been on the edge of the law if not an outlaw for this entire last decade. look at what you just talked about. the establishment of the oil policy. look what they did in iraq. there s been extraordinary scandals that involved halliburton and iraq. hundreds of millions of dollars disappeared when it was sent to halliburton. there are problems after problems after problems and it goes back to who s president. who does that person serve? the interest of the general public and the environment or the interest of the oil industry? now doubt about where george w. bush came from and then when he chose cheney at halliburton the dye was cast and the problems were created. you put it together we ll have you back on. i think we have the facts. $34 million in the pocket of dick cheney. his regulators in the regulating
