Interior designer Julie Crosby was visiting San Diego from her home in Los Angeles when she came across a residence in the Torrey Pines State Reserve, which is located in the coastal La Jolla neighborhood. The property needed a lot of work, but its secluded location seemed like an ideal place to raise her two daughters. So Julie called one of her previous collaborators, designer Michael Hilal, to ask him a question. She said, ‘Do you want to work on another project together?’ Hilal remembers. I jumped at the chance because Julie has an exceptional talent for design concepts and finishes that is unlike any of the homeowners I’ve worked with.
