Morocco, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Ghana have been waiting for at least forty years to win another Africa Cup of Nations title. None of these teams are approaching this 34th AFCON in Côte d'Ivoire in the same way or with the same status. For Morocco, the dream of a second AFCON title has been going on for 48 years. The Atlas Lions have lifted the trophy only once, in 1976 in Ethiopia, where the winner was decided by a finals tournament played between Morocco, Guinea, Nigeria and Egypt.
