airports around the country. it s outside the security perimeter? that s right. we talk about this all the time when we see incidents happen not just here but overseas. this is the so-called soft target area of the airport f you talk to any law enforcement official they will tell you it s almost impossible to eliminate vulnerabilities or a threat and get that down to zero. he took advantage of that vulnerability within the airport, the baggage claim. as we ve been reporting, legally, as it appears now, based on the information that we have, have that weapon inside his checked luggage. he also had the ammunition. that is perfectly fine if you follow very specific procedures. at this point it appears as if he did. you have to have it in a special case, a hard-side case. you cannot have the ammunition actually in the firearm. that needs to be separated. and you also need to check in with the ticket counter. it seems as if he followed all
sheriff that they don t think there is, but what can you tell us about that? of course that s something that we always have to be concerned about. now, you saw the panic envelope with the shots, the film that you were showing. but you know, we re getting super sensitive to this because especially in florida, we had the pulse night club slaughter, and needless to say, these are times that unfortunately at airports, you have crowds, it s a soft target, they re all bunched up, either outside the ticket counter or in this case, outside of baggage claim. it s an easy, soft target. that s why, by the way, on the basis of the belgium shooting last year, we have in the faa bill, double the dog teams, the viper teams.
outside tsa, automatic soft target. and one of the things that we have, because of the german shooting a year ago, we doubled the dog teams, because the dog is one of the best deterrents that we have. but still, you can t cover every airport, every crowd that bunches up. this shooter, his name is esteban santiago. he was carrying a military i.d. we don t know if that s active, if that s another family member s i.d. we will have to determine that. and, of course, we don t know a motive at this point. but you ve heard the reports from the eyewitnesss, when he finished three magazines he just sat down. and then law enforcement apprehended him.
