Portland Thorns FC drew 0-0 against NJ/NY Gotham FC in Providence Park on Sunday.
The Thorns pressure caused Gotham issues throughout the first half. Portland repeatedly won the ball back in dangerous positions and released Morgan Weaver and Simone Charley behind the back line.
Charley closed down Gotham goalkeeper DiDi Haracic and won the ball in the penalty area in the third minute. She was unable to get a shot off but the Thorns continued to pile on the pressure.
Meghan Klingenberg shot from distance and Haracic pushed it out for a corner. Klingenberg took the corner and the ball bounced around in the box before Kelli Hubly struck it toward the net, but it was saved again.

Tonight NJ/NY Gotham FC will open their 2021 regular season at home against the Houston Dash, their first league game under their new rebrand.
The opener will come on the heels of a heartbreaking Challenge Cup final defeat to the Portland Thorns last weekend in Oregon, a loss that saw Gotham come, literally, within a fingertips reach of the trophy. A Carli Lloyd goal would be the only one for the Harrison side in the ninety minutes of regular time, canceling out Christine Sinclair’s early opener for the Thorns, as the game headed to penalties locked at 1-1. The ensuing shootout brought plenty of nerves- but in the end it was Adrianna Franch’s decisive save on Nahomi Kawasumi’s effort that clinched the title for Portland after seven nervy rounds.

NJ/NY Gotham FC took another step towards the NWSL Spring Challenge Cup Final on Tuesday night, eeking out a 0-0 draw with the Washington Spirit.
The goalless affair was more action-filled than one would imagine for a scoreless draw. For the majority of the match the Metro side struggled to threaten the net of their I-95 rivals. Midge Purce had the best chance of the match for Gotham just six minutes in, unleashing a dart from the edge of the box that beat Spirit goalkeeper Aubrey Bledsoe, but her effort struck the post and eventually was cleared out of danger.
