UPDATE: Socorro County Sheriff s Officer-Involved Shooting in Veguita, NM

By News Editor And Partners • 15 hours ago Veguita, NM – On June 17, 2021, the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau was called to investigate an officer involved shooting in Veguita involving the Socorro County Sheriff’s Office.  All deputies were uninjured.  There were reports of a vehicle on fire.  Investigators learned that on June 17, 2021, at around 9:00 p.m. the Socorro County Sheriff’s Office was called to 78 Pedro Place in Veguita for a report of shots fired.  A neighbor called 911 reporting a white Dodge pickup occupied by several people was parked in front of 78 Pedro Place shooting guns at the residence, which was unoccupied.

State Police report details on officers shooting of suspect in Socorro

Copyright © 2020 Albuquerque Journal State Police released the names of an officer and the man he shot during a standoff in Socorro earlier this month, along with details of what led up to the incident. Richard Zamora State Police spokesman Dusty Francisco said 32-year-old Richard Zamora, a burglary suspect, was shot and injured on Dec. 5 when he pointed a gun at officers. He said the gun turned out to be a BB pistol and Sgt. Armando Reyes-Llamas, the 11-year veteran who fired, was placed on administrative leave. ...................... Zamora was treated for his injuries and has been booked into the Socorro County Detention Center. He is charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated assault on a peace officer, aggravated fleeing a law enforcement officer, burglary, unlawful taking of a motor vehicle and arson, among others.
