the military. well thanks for being here jason. no problem. thanks for your service. sure thing. and your parents service. i wanted to hear the story. so jason what are some of the things you would like to do that you can t do now? i wanted to do more for myself. independence. yes. i m sick of having everybody do stuff for me. at this point in time jason is still making progress and his therapy they started out with occupational therapy, cognitive therapy, speech therapy and the va was paying for all of that. one by one they dropped off. we can t stop and wait for the va because he ll regress so everything we re doing we re paying for. wow. for this very same circumstance. you go so far up the va and you hit a brick wall. this is not how we do it. congress s intent was if the potential there was and the
think, in these years, these decades since? if you look from a socio-historical perspective the military has come a long way. we ve been leaders in a lot of front. we haven t led in every area of social change but even in those areas where we haven t led we have been trendsetters. how would you say you have been trendsetters. has the army gotten it right? i think for the most part we have gotten it right and that s not to suggest that the smilt a panacea by any sense of the word. for the most part we have gotten it right. president truman s executive order that kind of did desegregation in the armed force is the model for fouls. that particular order led the way for the civil rights movement in lots of ways. there have been other things
and no one comes to capitol hill with more credibility and the sense of duty than the veterans. so i think it s happening. i would do everything i can to encourage them. get involved in your bso. understand this country wants you to take leadership roles, wants you to go forward and wants you to go forward to make sure we do right. your guests are on there talking about really important issues talking about being agents for change. i think that s what military people do. we don t stay static. there s leaders leaning forward trying to make things better. i m very optimistic we can get there. i agree with you. colby final thought 15 seconds. agent of change where do you think the next frontier might be? i think gender equality is the next frontier for the military and hopefully the opportunities afford my family as well as other minorities over the course of history will continue and expand and hopefully one day my dad will be able to put up a right hand.
