The Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the Netherlands' Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/E) recently signed a letter of intent agreeing to establish a framework for future strategic collaboration. This framework will establish cooperation between the Department and the university to enhance their respective capacities to better harness science, technology and innovation (STI) as instruments to drive both economic and societal development.
A new Circular Economy Demonstration Fund, supported by the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and implemented by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), a DSI entity, is one of four initiatives launched on Wednesday, 10 May. The circular economy is an important source of inclusive economic growth, and the 2019 White Paper on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) was one of the first South African policy documents to identify its long-term potential.
To achieve its goals, the Department provides leadership, an enabling environment and resources for science, technology and innovation. Through its Programmes (Administration; Technology Innovation; International Cooperation and Resources; Research Development and Support; and Socio-economic Innovation Partnerships) and several entities that work alongside it, the Department is accomplishing groundbreaking science and enhancing the well-being of all South Africans.
