Man accused of fraudulently collecting over $2k in welfare funds

Investigators resolved three welfare fraud cases of more than $10,000

BATAVIA — Genesee County Social Services investigators have seen three cases resolved in recent weeks, cases that totaled more than $10,000 in stolen funds. In the largest theft, Ifrah Armstrong, 42, of Batavia pleaded guilty to attempted fourth-degree grand larceny in Town Court last week. Armstrong had originally been charged with four counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing, all felonies. Investigator Dakota Nicholson said Armstrong failed to report income and received $5,208 in SNAP benefits she was not entitled to. Armstrong, who made full restitution, will be disqualified from receiving SNAP benefits for one year. She is scheduled to be sentenced in February.
