This article contains spoilers. 3/5 stars Colourful, dystopian drama series The Devil Judge, starring Ji Sung, Jin Young and Kim Min-jung, has been one of the more entertaining shows on air this year. Yet for all the Korean series' progressive approach to social inequity, media manipulation and rampant corruption, in its second half it revealed a surprising core value: an.
Soo-hyeon is dead. I wasn t actually sure she was dead, given that this is the fifth time a character has received a grievous, possibly mortal injury and not suffer any meaningful long-term consequences. The first was Ga-on, in that explosion I don t think was ever explained. Then Soo-hyeon, who got clocked in the head while investigating a lead. Then Yo-han got shot, but not killed. And most recently Jeong-ho. And I m not sure it was clearly explained why he was attacked either, The Devil Judge, Ahn Nae-sang, Choi Jeong-gyoo, Ji Sung, Jinyoung, Kim Jae-kyung, Kim Min-jung, Moon Yoo-suk, Park Gyu-young
Yo-han has been shot, and left for dead nearby the corpse of his greatest ally. Yo-han is then mostly left to his own devices by the villains, despite the fact that he is the only realistic threat to their plans. What exactly their plans even are is, well, yet another mystery. The beatdown of the citizens of an entire neighborhood isn t just unexplained, it somehow continues for at least a day without the actual objective, whatever it is, being accomplished, The Devil Judge, Ahn Nae-sang, Choi Jeong-gyoo, Ji Sung, Jinyoung, Kim Jae-kyung, Kim Min-jung, Moon Yoo-suk, Park Gyu-young
So Attorney General Cha has killed herself. Initially Soo-hyeon is on the scene and appears to suspect Yo-han of murdering her. What she was doing there and why she suspected Yo-han of murdering the Attorney General is unclear, but this plot hook is almost immediately abandoned. "The Devil Judge" then moves on to all the characters feeling like Attorney General Cha s suicide was a red line, and that Yo-han has gone too far by provoking this rash action on her part, The Devil Judge, Ahn Nae-sang, Choi Jeong-gyoo, Ji Sung, Jinyoung, Kim Jae-kyung, Kim Min-jung, Moon Yoo-suk, Park Gyu-young
So apparently Seon-ah being a former child maid for Yo-han s family is considered a horrible secret with the risk of disastrous consequences for the Social Responsibility Foundation chairwoman if made public. At least, Seon-ah s furious reaction to Attorney General Cha s threat gives that impression. Personally I m not that clear on why this is such a big deal. If this secret is so dangerous, why did Seon-ah reveal it to Yo-han when he didn t recognize her?, The Devil Judge, Ahn Nae-sang, Choi Jeong-gyoo, Ji Sung, Jinyoung, Kim Jae-kyung, Kim Min-jung, Moon Yoo-suk, Park Gyu-young
