Something went wrong - please try again later. Sign Up A trio of Scottish firms have teamed up to deliver a £5.2 million energy efficiency project across 100 social housing properties in Aberdeen. Dundee-based thermal imaging firm IRT Surveys is working with Elgin construction company Robertson Group and smart energy specialist SMS, of Glasgow, on the scheme. IRT Surveys said the “landmark” initiative continued a partnership with Aberdeen City Council spanning 20 years. In that time IRT Surveys has thermally imaged the council’s entire social housing portfolio of 22,000 homes, highlighting building defects and potential energy inefficiencies, demonstrating a viable route to net-zero carbon emissions for landlords, and helping to reduce fuel poverty among residents.

STROUD has been given a £1 million cash boost to help make council homes greener and warmer. Stroud District Council’s ambition for the district to become carbon neutral by the year 2030 has been given a boost from The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) Demonstrator grant will allow Stroud District Council’s housing service to `deep retrofit’ 28 council houses with the aim of significantly improving energy efficiency, reducing their carbon footprint and fuel costs for tenants. The bid was led by Stroud District Council in partnership with Two Rivers Housing and Cheltenham Borough Homes.

Solar panels, heat pumps and battery storage systems will all be installed, with the aim of demonstrating how green innovations are a viable route to net-zero carbon emissions for the social housing in the UK. All of the upgrades will be carried out at no cost to the tenants or landlords, and it is hoped the new technology will both improve comfort and lower energy costs for residents.
