country. the airports are doing a lot better than the roads. the problem is we got so much rain in a short period of time, we have a lot of huge, big puddles and some lanes closed on some highways. we ve got 3 inches of rain in the last 12 hours up there in connecticut and massachusetts. we had about 2 inches of rain anywhere from philadelphia all the way down to d.c., including new york city. so the heavy rains have shifted northward but we still have to wait for some of that to drain out of the way. the longer you can wait, the better the roads will get during the day today. the green on the map shows you all the rain. the heaviest is now anywhere from the connecticut/new york border shifting up into maine. notice the rain is completely shut off in washington, d.c. temperatures will be falling too, but not below freezing. i m not too worried about ice. and the snow side of the storm really underachieved. we were expecting more than this but only got a couple inches in buffalo. it s
the pennsylvania turnpike, i-80 through pennsylvania, there is a coating of snow out there so be careful, especially at the higher elevations. we re now starting to fill in the rain up and down the eastern seaboard. virginia now covered in rain, maryland and delaware. that soon will be heading up into the northeast for the evening rush hour. again, just rain. also we ve got a chance of some tornados down here in the areas of northern florida, tallahassee area especially. we ll watch you carefully this afternoon. so here s my expected airport delays for today. the most significant delays or cancellations. atlanta, charlotte and raleigh. the worst of that weather is now arriving in those areas. it will be a little worse as we get towards the evening. d.c., just a little rain, not too bad. the most significant delays and cancellations will likely take place wednesday morning at the airports around new york city, hartford back up into boston. winds could gust 40 to 50 miles per hour. that
warnings. we have ice storm warning where we could see significant icing. very dangerous. people are urged to stay off the roads where we re getting ice. there is kansas city, miss sourcery, that bull s eye where we could get 12 to 18 inches of snow. some places we re getting a snowstorm they haven t seen in last couple years. the snow plows are out, people are shovel-ready. the snow side of the storm we ll see hail, damaging wind and even tornados in the area you see in yellow. luckily no warnings yet but we ll keep you posted. we ll watch the icy mix up through missouri, illinois, into ohio into friday. we ll still be talking about this storm. john and jenna, if i could, the moisture associated with the cold front, part of that could develop into a nor easter that could bring some heavy snow totals to new england, areas that saw one, two, three feet of snow just a couple of weeks ago.
then to the overnight hours, the blue s the snow. chicago possibly, south side of chicago, the heaviest and then watch out in detroit, possibly even in cleveland, too. you could be dealing with ice and winter-like conditions as the storm goes through. tomorrow morning at this time, heavy rainfall. the red and yellows is heavy rain. all of southern new england, the mid-atlantic and philadelphia and new york city and with snow melt in southern new england, we worry about flooding concerns and then the storm leaves friday afternoon. i guess the biggest concern first off is the potential for tornadoes today. this is a moderate risk of severe weather little rock to memphis to greenville. you have the best shot of storms with isolated tornadoes and then the snow side of this is is that narrow band near chicago and near detroit later on tonight, lynn. this is one of the storms that you get in the spring or late winter, early spring. little bit of everything. thank you so much. more on oil
