Peoria sidewalks: Property owners have responsibility to clear

PEORIA  With another storm bringing the chance of moderate snowfall, one looks to city plows to clear the streets. But who clears the sidewalks? Not the Snow Fighters, as the city crews have been dubbed or, at least, not unless you want to pay them for it.  It s good information to know as the area picked up about an inch or so of snow Thursday and had the chance for 1 to 3 inches of snow on Saturday, said Mike Albano, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Lincoln.  Rather, there is a responsibility of a property owner to clear their sidewalks. You are required to clear the sidewalks in front of your property, said Rick Powers, the head of the city s public works department.

Seeing some slick spots, Maroon offered some tips for driving in snow, including leaving extra time to get to your destination, and driving slower.
