he d already planned that we would do it late at night so we would avoid traffic, protests, crowds. i thought it was the right way to do it. no pomp and circumstance. just get the work done. and explain why it was important to do this, especially in baltimore? some see these as symbols of history, right or wrong, difficult or not. but why take them down? well, i agree with you that some people see them as symbols of history. at the same time, at this particular point in time in our history, there is just too much protests, and i think what we have to begin to do in this nation is to heal and show that we love and respect each other. i mean, these are salutes to the confederac confederacy. this is the united states of america, and we ought to be united in purpose and causes and moving our country forward. i m very focussed on how we move baltimore forward, a city that has had many problem over the
unacceptable. i ve said that loud and clear. so cory gardner got out really strongly. you said that s sort of a departure for him. he s a low-key guy. he actually got very passionate. i m reading that as real emotion from him. i covered him during himself reelection, i interviewed him. he s a very even keel guy. he thinks very carefully before he says things. i think that was a remarkable moment for him. still ahead, baltimore pulls down confederate monuments under the cover of darkness. mayor katherine pugh said she used emergency powers to, quote, protect her city.
the political leadership there. absolutely i blame the political leadership in baltimore. they have done nothing than sit on their butts until now getting millions of bucks in money to fix this problem. putting band-aids on the problem has not helped. i have got to tell you there is a new sheriff in town. when you are bringing in the federal agents here to actually assist. some of these bad guys now will go off the street. you have somebody like bill mcmull will run of the atf who has a wealth of experience that he brings so this dogfight bad guys look out. the feds are here. i m all for helping other communities, when you send the atf in there. they are not going some place else. the rest of federal taxpayers are paying because baltimore leadership can t run their own city and they have already gotten federal funds to try to fix these problems. they haven t done anything. so now the american taxpayer is paying twice. and the atf is not doing something elsewhere we might use othe
point because it s actually ten federal agents. two from five different federal agenciesment and to borrow ted s phrase is this really just a band-aid on a hemorrhaging wound? because these federal agents are only going to be around for the next 60 days. what happens over the next two months once they are gone? do they have the right training? do they have the right supervision? more importantly greta and ted, does baltimore police law enforcement have the right support from the political leaders like the state attorney, like the mayor to be able to run that city safely and acceptably for the community at large? i don t know who has the authority i don t think the governor can. that leadership is just it s so awful it s so disgraceful and actually cruel to these people in these communities who are trying to educate their kids and want their kids to have a life and what they have done for years and years is just terrible. it is, greta. and you like you said, there are a lot of g
political machine there would have done more for the city. they have done a heck of a job against that city. you know, katy, i know that people jump all over marilyn mosby and i do, too. because i you think how she handled this prosecution of these cops is really bad really columnsy. but she is the prosecutor. i mean, the cops are supposed to make the arrest. and her office is supposed to prosecute it. but, the problems that we are talking about that give rise to all these homicides is these horrible situations is because of the political leadership in baltimore that s not the cops and not the prosecutor. you know, you are only as strong as your weakest link and really, you know, it s supposed to be, as you said, law and order. but it s more like law and disorder at this point over 300,000 prescriptions were looted and stolen during the riots back in april. they have said that that s contributing to the problem on the streets. so what was the genesis of that problem the community.
