exemplified awesome detective work, we took this case very seriously. it seems they regarded it as an absolute hate crime, investigated it and pursued it to that end which is why i find it so unconscionable, that a black man in america would be complicit with making lynching a headline. emmitt till found his body, dragged from the river and mutilated, his casket open under request of his mother to draw attention to the horrific nature of livenlging in america. you put this idea as someone using that as fodder and capi l capitalizing on that horrific history, it s unconscionable. the people who capitalize on the hatred in this country, susan smith, who in the 90s drove her
mark opr mark o meara is a former defense attorney. thank you all for being with me. faith, just starting with you, as you re hearing some of these details come out and also apparently jussie smollett s body language, shaking his head, deep breaths. obviously his family is in the courtroom. what are your thoughts so far? so far? i find that this is going to be a troubling case, i think, for jussie, if he continues along the road that he has been before he was accused. he has every right as a defendant to amount an aggressive defense. we have not heard his side since he has been accused, but based on all of the trickles of information and corroborating seemingly corroborating evidence that keeps coming out that would support these two brothers in what they ve been saying, i think that his strategy going
that from his perspective and what he would like to see next. obviously there s been a lot of thought process put into this. people want to see what happens next. why would he do this? could we hear from the actor? he never met with prosecutors or the detectives who were working this case. you can see why people are sort of wanting to ask that next question. we do have video of the brothers as they start to buy materials to try to pull this off. you should see everyone who is lined up. one thing that we have been told, he will not get any special treatment when he s leaving here. so it could be interesting as this all plays out, brooke, with him leaving. i don t know two weeks ago when we started talking about this case and heard the actor going on the subway to get something to eat and then he was jumped we would end up in this place right now. with so many people asking the obvious question, the question of why, why would this happen? we really would look to hear his side. you saw th
smollett then drove the brothers home and provided them with a $3,500 personal check made payable to abel, backdated to swr january 23rd of 2019. the judge even expressed anger about this, especially when it came to that noose, the idea that that could be placed on someone s neck and back to what all that means especially to african-americans. jussie smollett had a $100,000, bond out with $10,000. detectives have been working this since the very beginning. 12 detectives, more than 1,000 police hours. the superintendent of police was not happy about this. he came out with some very strong words. i can tell you that the rank and file were very happy about. they ve been putting this case together but while this was happening, they were taking arrows to everyone, talking about maybe the feds need to come in and take care of this. detectives knew something was wrong from the very beginning. let s hear the superintendent s
