France will raise the price of a pack of cigarettes to 12 euros and ban smoking on beaches, parks and around schools. Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable mortality in France. It is blamed for 75,000 deaths a year, nearly one in eight. French Health Minister Aurelien Rousseau said his goal is to achieve "a tobacco-free generation by 2030-2032" He said that this new plan will be an achievement if tobacco deaths can be reduced by 50 or 100 a day.
