Thomas celebrates 90th birthday
Charles “Charlie” Thomas of Smithville celebrated his 90th birthday on Dec. 14.
He recently received a personalized quilt that was created and assembled by his three daughters, his wife and his daughter-in-law.
The quilt contains material and patches from his service uniforms from the Korean Conflict, the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department and the Boy Scouts of America.
Charlie was a Boy Scout and Explorer leader in Smithville for 30 years, on the Wayne County Crippled Children Committee, Smithville City Council, Smithville Camera Club and numerous adult groups at the Smithville United Methodist Church.
He also served on the Smithville Volunteer Fire Department as a firefighter and EMT for 25 years. He married Virginia Holderman of Smithville 67 years ago, and they have four children Ann (Keith) Kline, Bob (Rena) Thomas, Kate Thomas and Barbara (Odell) Spence.
