Cbs reporter Omar Villafranca with more on the death of the first person diagnosed with ebola in the United States. Reporter Thomas Eric Duncan is now the first person in the United States to die from ebola. The 42yearold liberian passed away after being hospitalized at Texas Health Presbyterian in dallas since late last month. The hospital released a statement expressing its condolences and saying ebola is a disease that attacks the body in many ways. Well continue every effort to contain the spread of the virus and protect people from this threat. Duncan was originally sent home when he first came to the hospital. By the time he was admitted four days later, his condition had worsened. Duncan, who brought the virus back with him from liberia, received experimental treatment and kidney dialysis. In the last hour, we talked to a cousin, now Family Friends and names identify the father in this fire as mohammed saibe [ phonetic ]. This is the victims cousin. They are okay. They suffered smoke inhalation. Im shocked. Im glad they are okay at the hospital. We are gonna go visit them now. Reporter so the cousin and neighbors say that the mans family lives up on the second floor and then below, thats where mohammed manages a liquor store here at the corner of 24th and treat. Now all five are at the hospital. The father and two children have the most serious injuries. We had five challenging rescues, a mother, father and three children. Redwood city and san jose nearly a half inch of rainfall. Coming up in weather, well talk about when the next rain chance is as this heavy rainfall ends coming up in a few minutes. By midafternoon the storm had its sights set directly on san jose. Our len ramirez picks up our coverage. Reporter for families commuting southbound on oil 87 through downtown, they may not be getting home until late because traffic is at a standstill. Its been this way all afternoon ever since this very strong storm hit early this afternoon. The intense downpour seemed to catch everyone by surprise including drivers along the southbound lanes of highway 87 fire that downtown san jose. Debris led to snarled traffic all afternoon after lanes were blocked. Storm drains clogged with leaves were a problem for palo alto.
