TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Smith County’s elections administrator has resigned, effective at the end of this week, the county says, two days after local elections were held.
According to Smith County spokesperson Casey Murphy, Smith County Elections Administrator Denise Hernandez submitted a letter of resignation Monday afternoon to Smith County Judge Nathaniel Moran. Hernandez had only been in that position for three months. She was previously Henderson County elections administrator, a position she’d held since 2008.

SMITH COUNTY, Texas Smith County Judge Nathaniel Moran issued a Disaster Declaration for Smith County on Sunday due to the winter storm and the extremely hazardous driving conditions that have already caused partial closure of Interstate 20.
Most of the state is under a winter storm warning through Monday, and emergency management officials are urging residents to stay home if possible, and do not drive on icy roads. Bridges, overpasses and other elevated structures are the first to freeze but other areas of roadways will continue to worsen as temperatures continue to plummet and ice and/or snow accumulation is seen in the area.

TYLER, Texas After reporting hospital capacity at less than 15% of COVID-19 patients for seven consecutive days since Jan. 29, the Piney Woods Trauma Service Area (TSA-G) is no longer designated as an “area with high hospitalization,” as defined by Governor Abbott’s Executive Order GA-32.
Counties included in Trauma Service Area G include: Anderson, Camp, Cherokee, Franklin, Freestone, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Houston, Marion, Panola, Rains, Rusk, Shelby, Smith, Trinity, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood.

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - The Smith County Elections Commission voted Tuesday to hire longtime Elections Administrator Denise Hernandez to head Smith Countyâs Elections Office.
After interviewing two candidates and holding several meetings to discuss the issue, the Elections Commission agreed to hire Hernandez, of Athens, who has been the Henderson County Elections Administrator since 2008.
One of the reasons you re being asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing during this pandemic is to not only help stop the spread of COVID but to also help to keep hospitalizations down so our healthcare workers can work on those who need help the most.
Apparently, folks are still not listening as Smith County is reporting that COVID patients are starting to fill up area hospitals. Which could mean in some cases that even if YOU don t have COVID but something ELSE that affects you medically, you may not be able to stay at hospital to get treated. That is the whole point of protecting yourself and others.
