Stock up for summer reading during Smart Start s book sale fundraiser
Smart Start provides early literacy initiatives as well as health and nutrition and early childcare support resources.
The sale will be held online and in person. The virtual event will take place on the partnership s Smart Start Summer Reading Bonanza HYBRID Book Sale Facebook group at www.facebook.com/groups/smartstartpfcbooksale. New and used books will be sold for $2 to $5.
Tickets are required for the in-person sale. Each ticket is good for one hour of shopping and costs $10. It will be held from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day of the sale in the parking lot of Smart Start Partnership for Children at 722 5th Ave West.
READY! kits with books, activities offered to incoming HCPS kindergartners
Community volunteers put together 1,100 READY! kits full of kindergarten readiness activities Friday.
Henderson County Public Schools and local early education partners are wanting to provide the kits to give incoming kindergartners tools they can use at home to prepare for their first year of school, according to a HCPS news release.
The kits include books, crayons, clay, safety scissors, Unifix cubes and activity sheets. They will be distributed by each elementary school by the end of this school year.
HCPS also developed a three-part series of “Kindergarteners Can!” videos to provide an introduction to what school will look like. The videos are available on the district’s YouTube channel, website, Facebook and Twitter.
