Harrington Raceway’s 75th season of live harness racing will commence Monday (April 12) with a 14-race program starting at 4:30 p.m. Located 20 miles south of Delaware’s capital city, Dover, the First State’s racing circuit shifts from Dover Downs to Harrington on a three-day schedule for most of the season, operating Monday through Wednesday through June 23 before a two-week period of Monday and Tuesday racing prior to the customary summer break after July 6. Slick Tony turned a sweet, two-hole trip into a Thursday evening triumph in the $20,000 Open Pace at Dover Downs. With Victor Kirby at the lines, Slick Tony marched to the early lead and had the field chasing him past the quarter-pole in :27. Tiger Thompson N then made a bid for the top and after clearing to the motor he went on to post middle panels of :55.3 and 1:23. He was prompted by the parked out Tyga Hanover, and the pressure eventually took its toll on both of them. Slick Tony found room in the lane and used his :27.4 closing kick to win by three-quarters of a length over a very game Tyga Hanover. Itsrockandroll A was third.

Last to the three-quarter pole but first to the finish line was the Coles Notes version of what transpired for Slick Tony in Thursday’s $21,000 Open Handicap for pacers at Dover Downs. Fresh off a winning effort versus easier foes in late January, Slick Tony was sent off at odds of 9-1 in his quest to double up. Victor Kirby was in no hurry with the George Leager trainee, who was ninth at the quarter, eighth at the half and then back to ninth at the three-quarter marker. Numbered Account fired to the lead and served up fractions of :26.1, :54.1 and 1:22. but he lacked staying power and started to back pedal his way through the field. JJ Flynn, who was sent off as the even-money choice in the nine-horse affair, advanced first-over and had worked his way to the top at the top of the lane. Slick Tony, however, exploded off cover and steamrolled home in :27.1 to win by a nose over JJ Flynn in a sharp clocking of 1:50.3. Major Pocket A was third.
